Customer

NOS is the third largest operator in Portugal. They have a 2G, 3G and 4G network supporting 4.5 million subscribers.

Challenge

NOS wanted a solution that could leverage geolocated subscriber data to improve the customer experience, along with specialized business analytics to help them understand where monetization opportunities existed. This was particularly important as they were planning to deploy VoLTE and new IoT services and wanted to maximize their return on investment. NOS was particularly interested in further automating problem detection, root cause analysis and network optimization, with an eye towards improving the customer experience. User, handset and hotspot analysis were also important components.

TEOCO’s Solution

NOS selected TEOCO’s Mentor, with its powerful geolocation engine, to deliver advanced performance monitoring and optimization, along with deep dive troubleshooting and subscriber experience visualization across all technologies and equipment vendors in the network. Mentor was deployed on Hadoop, bringing additional scalability and performance, along with significant cost-savings in third party hardware and software.

TEOCO also implemented CogniSense, our business intelligence solution that delivers actionable data insights into subscriber, device and network performance, powered by geolocated data and advanced analytics. CogniSense provides dashboards for detailed analytics, giving both a high-level overview of network KPIs and the ability to drill down to troubleshoot issues, or enable more specific business-driven analytics. Use cases included analysis of roaming customers, user behavior, and historical trends of faults and KPIs.

Value Generated

“Our work with TEOCO has meant we can build an ecosystem of tools that can help us to constantly improve our network, from planning through to optimization and identifying new value creation streams,” said Jorge Graça, CTIO, NOS. “Adding Mentor with CogniSense reinforces the insights we get from the mobile network and enhances the accuracy of the information we have, building the framework for mobile optimization automation.”
